Join other Ma'wa Mamas for an unforgettable adventure in the stunning landscapes of Colorado! We missed Colorado on our 2024 trips, so we're coming back for the start of 2025! Join your Muslim sisters in Islam for a long-weekend adventure and bring your coats, gloves, and boots for a winter getaway!

This 3-night trip in Colorado is a beginner level trip that can accommodate 6-8 people.

Accommodation:

There is one large lodge/home reserved for this trip with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Each bedroom has a different configuration of beds - you may register for your preferred sleeping arrangement via our booking platform.

The lodging reserved for this trip is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado - about a 1.5 hour drive from Denver. Participants should be prepared for some driving/commuting over the course of the weekend to reach the hikes and activities planned in the itinerary.

Trip Activities + Difficulty Level:

This is a Beginner level trip - the hikes planned are slightly challenging, but can be done by participants with limited hiking experience.

Itinerary highlights include:

  • Visit to the Garden of the Gods

  • Scenic drive along Pikes Peak Highway and stand on top of one of Colorados 14ers

  • Visit to one of the highest suspension bridges in the world: Royal Gorge Bridge

  • Exploring the small town of Manitou Springs or challenge yourself with a hike up the iconic Manitou Incline

Note: our itinerary may be subject to slight changes throughout the weekend due to delays, weather, or factors outside of our control.

Note: All Ma'wa Collective trips are considered group trips - as a participant, you will be expected to remain with your group at all times. Participants are not permitted to leave the group and engage in activities outside the published itinerary. Any participant found in violation of this may be subject to dismissal from the trip and/or future Ma'wa Collective trips.

Sohad Khafagy

Trip Lead

Sohad Khafagy is an Egyptian artist, teacher, and former medical doctor. She moved to the US over 30 years ago and has been an active member in Muslim community as Girl Scout leader at the MCA Santa Clara and principal at the Islamic Community Center of Redlands where she has organized annual summer camps. She raised 3 girls in California and frequently organized weekend family camps in Lake Tahoe and Yosemite for Muslim families in the Bay Area. She also joined and organized 4 Ma'wa trips, the first two were Mother-Daughter retreats in Yosemite and Sequoia, and two Ma'wa Mamas trips in Palm Springs and San Diego

What's Included

Trip registration includes lodging, food, and coordinated activities throughout the weekend.

Important Notes Regarding Transportation:

  • Transportation to Denver is not covered by Ma'wa Collective. While we can assist with arranging carpools among participants, we cannot guarantee that every Trip will have local participants that are able to volunteer their personal cars and offer a carpool. In some cases, a rental car may be the only option for carpooling, and the cost of the rental car is not covered by Ma’wa Collective.  

  • It is the responsibility of participants to do their due diligence to check on travel logistics before signing up for the trip. This includes checking flight availability and pricing if you are not local to the area. If you will be flying in for this trip, we advise flying into Denver International Airport with arrival no later than 2 pm on Friday, February 14th, and departure no earlier than 2 pm on Monday, February 17th.
