This trek covers a distance of approximately 80 kilometers (50 miles), with varied daily hikes ranging from 11 to 22 kilometers (7 to 14 miles). The route is shaped like a "W," traversing the park's most iconic features, including the towering granite spires of Torres del Paine, the breathtaking French Valley, and the stunning Grey Glacier.
The most strenuous section is the hike to the base of the Torres, with an elevation gain of around 900 meters (2,950 feet) over a 9-kilometer (5.6-mile) stretch. Other sections, like the trek through the French Valley, also involve substantial elevation changes, though the exact figures can fluctuate depending on the specific trail variations. Overall, the W Trek demands a moderate to high level of fitness, as hikers must be prepared for both steep climbs and long distances. Despite the challenges, the unparalleled views and the sense of accomplishment at the end of the trek make it an unforgettable adventure.
